*bringing awareness to all our inner dog circles

As the days get longer and the temperatures rise, summer becomes a favorite season for outdoor adventures—but it also brings a unique set of challenges for our canine companions. Whether you're planning beach trips, hikes, or backyard barbecues, it's important to keep your dog's safety top of mind during the hottest months of the year.
🐶 Dogs and Heat: A Risky Combination Unlike humans, dogs don’t sweat the same way we do. They cool off primarily through panting and a small amount of sweat through their paw pads. This means they’re much more vulnerable to overheating, especially when temperatures spike.
Signs of heatstroke in dogs include:
  • Heavy panting or drooling
  • Lethargy or confusion
  • Bright red gums or tongue
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Collapsing or seizures
If you notice any of these symptoms, act fast: move your dog to a cool area, offer small amounts of water, and contact your vet immediately.
🚗 Please—Never Leave Your Dog in the Car One of the most dangerous (and unfortunately common) mistakes dog owners make is leaving their pet in a parked car during warm weather. Even with the windows cracked, the temperature inside a car can skyrocket in minutes.
On an 85°F (29°C) day, a car's interior can hit 100°F (38°C) in just 10 minutes. That’s dangerously hot—and potentially deadly—for your dog.
Leaving the engine running with the air conditioning on isn't a guaranteed solution either. Mechanical failures or accidental shutdowns can still occur. The safest—and kindest—choice? If your dog isn’t welcome at your destination, leave them at home.
🏠 Home Is the Coolest Place to Be While it’s tempting to bring your dog along for every summer outing, sometimes staying home is truly the best option. When you leave your pup behind, make sure they have:
  • Access to cool, fresh water
  • A shaded or air-conditioned space
  • A comfy spot to nap out of the sun
You can also offer frozen treats, cooling mats, and indoor play to help them beat the heat and stay entertained.
🌴 Enjoy Summer, Safely  Summer is still a great time to enjoy life with your dog—just make some heat-smart choices. Walk during cooler hours, avoid hot pavement, and always bring water when you're out together.
A little planning can go a long way in making this summer safe, fun, and memorable for both you and your furry best friend.
Stay cool, stay kind, and give your pup some extra love today. 🐾
